"Maureen Callahan's deft reporting and stylish writing have created one of the all-time-great serial-killer books: sensitive, chilling, and completely impossible to put down." (Ada Calhoun, author of St. Marks Is Dead)

Ted Bundy. John Wayne Gacy. Jeffrey Dahmer. The names of notorious serial killers are usually well-known; they echo in the news and in public consciousness. But most people have never heard of Israel Keyes, one of the most ambitious and terrifying serial killers in modern history. The FBI considered his behavior unprecedented. Described by a prosecutor as "a force of pure evil", Keyes was a predator who struck all over the United States. He buried "kill kits" - cash, weapons, and body-disposal tools - in remote locations across the country. Over the course of 14 years, Keyes would fly to a city, rent a car, and drive thousands of miles in order to use his kits. He would break into a stranger's house, abduct his victims in broad daylight, and kill and dispose of them in mere hours. And then he would return home to Alaska, resuming life as a quiet, reliable construction worker devoted to his only daughter.

When journalist Maureen Callahan first heard about Israel Keyes in 2012, she was captivated by how a killer of this magnitude could go undetected by law enforcement for over a decade. And so began a project that consumed her for the next several years - uncovering the true story behind how the FBI ultimately caught Israel Keyes, and trying to understand what it means for a killer like Keyes to exist. A killer who left a path of monstrous, randomly committed crimes in his wake - many of which remain unsolved to this day.

American Predator is the ambitious culmination of years of interviews with key figures in law enforcement and in Keyes's life, and research uncovered from classified FBI files. Callahan takes us on a journey into the chilling, nightmarish mind of a relentless killer, and to the limitations of traditional law enforcement.

This book confirmed all my suspicions about why LE at large tried to bury the Keyes case .... Maureen Callahan has done the public a service with this book. It reads like an expose of all the things we should be taking different LE and legal agencies to task for.***This review starts with a semi-rant about how this case was screwed up. My analysis of Maureen’s writing and the book overall is titled separately below if you want to skip the complaining. ;-) ***The Rant:If you’ve never heard of Keyes, he’s likely the most terrifying serial killer we’ve ever had, and one of the least known. Least known because authorities deliberately hid the info they had on him. If you DO know the Keyes case, and you haven’t been pissed about how it was handled, you should be, and will be, after reading this book.(Side-note: For years I’ve been complaining to anyone who’d listen, online and everywhere possible about the FBI withholding info on this case. I’ve been screaming, “Cover up!” like a conspiracy theorist. BECAUSE IT WAS. You bastards! I knew it!! Lol).Bravo, Maureen! Seriously. This book demonstrated clearly how ego and bravado screwed up a massive case, and the subsequent cover up. There were a few good agents, great periphery LE with their hearts in the right places ... and idiot “big shots” who bungled everything and made rookie mistakes with Keyes, subsequently losing valuable info. Now, this case is one I followed extensively, and was completely infuriated by the investigation. I watched all the FBI interviews (that were released anyways), multiple hours of them — and wondered what the hell a US Attorney’s office prosecutor was doing playing interrogator ... how did he think that would turn out for a trial ...?I followed Maureen Callahan’s multi-year long battle in court to get the FBI and US Attorneys office to release all the info they had on Keyes. And boy, did they fight it. And I wondered ... why? What are you hiding? Keyes is dead, there’s no investigation to protect, you won’t be prosecuting him. So why protect his info now that he’s gone? Why keep a no-publicity promise to a serial killer when there’s still friggin victims unidentified out there! (As Keyes himself said, most will just be straight missing persons cases. No real press, no muss or fuss. Just another person ghosted in a sea of missing people.) Or were they protecting themselves? Yep. ALL the agencies involved buried their mistakes. As Callahan points out, the interview where Keyes correctly predicts an underwhelming response to Samantha’s kidnapping from the outset by APD was buried for years. Until she dug it up.The public should be outraged over this case. Yet barely a blip, certainly the LE involved we’re not held accountable following Keyes death. I hope they realized how incredibly bad they effed up and have since made changes, but ...This entire case is a study in missed opportunities. Now we have a victim count we’ve barely begun to scratch the surface of, and little to no info or follow up post-Keyes suicide. To be honest, I think Keyes only gave them a count of bodies he thought might eventually be found and/or possibly connected to him. There’s more out there. And we don’t know who they are. IMO, the US Attorneys office & APD, (and possibly the FBI for allowing all the bungling), wanted this case to vanish as much as Keyes did. Obnoxiously, it did.I was excited for Maureen’s book, but thought there wasn’t much new info I would get out of it. In fact, there was quite a bit. This peeled back the investigation, a glimpse into the mindset of the investigators. Quick nod here to Texas, you guys are THE SH*T. Keyes himself was amazed at how on guard ordinary people in Texas were, how observant and well armed. Plus your LE? As I believed before, the LE people who did best in this whole mess of a case, who were most on top of it all ... were the Texas Rangers and State Police. These guys knocked it out of the park. They took vague info and turned it into an arrest. If only they could’ve run the rest of it! No, not exactly fair. Had the FBI agents who’d been tracking Keyes taken the lead on questioning and the rest ... maybe we’d have a different outcome. My analysis of Maureen’s writing and style:I saw reviewers point out they didn’t feel Maureen could extrapolate feeling and tone from transcripts. That’s true, EXCEPT, there’s video to go along with those transcripts — the tone is VERY easy to sense. Along with the power struggles and silent battles. Her interpretation of the power dynamics and missed opportunities in questioning were exactly what I got out of those tapes. So everyone else, please understand, she’s not making things up here. There were a few times I thought, “Ok, you can’t know what he was thinking here so writing this investigators innermost thoughts is a ballsy writing move.” Yet, those few occasions were logical thoughts anyone would’ve had. She used them as teaching moments, i.e. times where quotes from interrogation transcripts showed clear questioning errors on the prosecutor’s part, and another investigator would think, “That’s a mistake.” Stuff like that. Not a stretch. But I still think some leeway should be given here; Maureen mentions extensive interviews with individuals involved at the beginning of the book. So we have to give some latitude for that. I didn’t see anything in this book I thought ventured towards the fictional. Now, in the interest of fairness, Maureen had to fight the US Attorney/DOJ for years in court to get the info for this book. So it’s possible she had a resentment bias while writing in regards to Feldis screwing up this case. BUT, I thought her treatment of him was fair — bc he WAS the main screw up point in this case. Everything she wrote I agreed with. This book is extremely well written. It’s VERY in-depth, piecing together so much info on Keyes, it felt like a goldmine to someone like me who’s been frustrated by the info blackout. I read the only other book on Keyes and found it lacking. This is a result of years of fighting the government for their records, and meticulous research. Yet it’s not dry or boring. This was a fully engaging page turner. It keeps you totally immersed in the investigation and Keyes in general. Very well done, I was impressed.I read this book in one day, it was a page turner.Spooky killer, excellent book Israel Keyes was beyond belief in his weirdness, capacity to torture and kill. And his planning: he planned his murders, in broad outline, years in advance. Then took advantage of immediate opportunities. The book is clear and easy to follow. I especially enjoyed the parts about his family and growing up years. I wish there had been more. But I get the impression family and friends weren't anxious to talk about being close to a depraved serial killer. If you like true crime, this is for you.don't get murdered in Anchorage AK This book shows the failure of law enforcement bureaucracies to work together. The few dedicated cops and feds were constantly undermined by their co-workers. The federal prosecutor should be disbarred. The most informative information in the book was Roy Hazelwood's admission that he no longer trusted his former employer - the FBI - to be honest about the number of stranger abductions/murders. Israel Keyes was the product of religious fanaticism and survivalism growing up which only encouraged his psychopathy.

The Anatomy Coloring Book Free Pdf

ISBN: 0321832019
Title: The Anatomy Coloring Book Pdf
Author: Wynn Kapit
Published Date: 2013-03-27
Page: 162

WYNN KAPIT Wynn Kapit, the designer and illustrator of this book, has had careers in law, graphic and advertising design, painting, and teaching.      In 1955, he graduated from law school, with honors, from the University of Miami and was admitted to the Florida Bar. He practiced law both before and after military service. Four years later, he decided to pursue a childhood ambition and enrolled at what is now the Art Center College in Los Angeles, where he studied graphic design. Afterwards, he worked in the New York advertising world for six years as a designer and art director. He “dropped out” in the late 1960s, returned to California, and began painting. His numerous exhibitions included a one-man show at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in 1968. He returned to school and received a master’s degree in painting from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972.      Kapit was teaching figure drawing in Adult Ed in San Francisco in 1975 when he decided he needed to learn more about bones and muscles. He enrolled in Dr. Elson’s anatomy class at San Francisco City College. While he was a student, he created the word-and-illustration coloring format that seemed to be a remarkably effective way of learning the subject. He showed some layouts to Dr. Elson and indicated his intention to do a coloring book on bones and muscles for artists. Immediately recognizing the potential of this method, Dr. Elson encouraged Kapit to do a “complete” coloring book on anatomy and offered to collaborate on the project. The first edition of The Anatomy Coloring Book was published in 1977, and its immediate success inspired the development of a completely new field of publishing: educational coloring books.      Kapit went on to create The Physiology Coloring Book with the assistance of two professors who were teaching at Berkeley: Dr. Robert I. Macey and Dr. Esmail Meisami. That book was published in 1987 and has gone through two editions. In the early 1990s, Kapit wrote and designed The Geography Coloring Book, now in its second edition. LAWRENCE M. ELSON Lawrence M. Elson, PhD, planned the content and organization, provided sketches, and wrote the text for the book. This is his seventh text, having authored It’s Your Body and The Zoology Coloring Book and co-authored The Human Brain Coloring Book and The Microbiology Color ing Book. He received his BA in zoology and pre-med at the University of California at Berkeley and continued there to receive his PhD in human anatomy. Dr. Elson was assistant professor of anatomy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, participated in the development of the Physician’s Assistant Program, lectured and taught dissection anatomy at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, and taught general anatomy, from protozoons to humans, at City College of San Francisco.      In his younger days, Dr. Elson trained to become a naval aviator and went on to fly dive-bombers off aircraft carriers in the Western Pacific. While attending college and graduate school, he remained in the Naval Air Reserve and flew antisubmarine patrol planes and helicopters. His last position in his 20-year Navy career was as commanding officer of a reserve antisubmarine helicopter squadron.      Dr. Elson is a consultant to insurance companies and personal injury and medical malpractice attorneys on causation-of-injury/death issues, a practice that has taken him throughout the United States and Canada. He has testified in hundreds of personal injury trials and arbitrations. His research interests are focused on the anatomic bases of myofascial pain arising from low velocity accidents.

Excellent & a must have for anyone taking Anatomy classes Bought this book for my daughter who's taking Anatomy in college. She said it's a great book, and, "Anyone who's a Kinesthetic learner should use this book. Seeing pretty colors attracts you so the coloring helps that." I got her it in time to help her study for her midterm and she quizzed herself by covering the labels on the page she was coloring. She followed the suggestions in the book for what color to use for different functions and suggests everyone do so because it helps when you later go back to something you already colored. She got a 103/100 on the 1st test she used it to help study for :) As a patent I'm ecstatic with it since my daughter is very happy with it and said it's helping her. I also bought one for her friend who's studying for a career in the medical field too.Like most of the reviewers Like most of the reviewers, I am taking anatomy and physiology for two semesters and was looking for a book to supplement my learning. I am currently four pages in to coloring and here is my review.Pros: Short explanations on every page on the parts that you are coloring and their functions. : It makes you color in the part as well as its name so you remember how it is spelled : Uses terminology that you must (eventually) be familiar with e.g: "anteriorly" and "posteriorly"Cons: While most of the diagrams (thus far) are pretty clearly drawn, some are extremely small (the diameter, and some times smaller than the diameter of the tip of the colored pencil) : Some diagrams are not very clearly labeled thus, makes coloring it confusing. e.g: on page 4, you are to color male and female reproductive systems. However, the "stars" that mark areas that you are not supposed to color are microscopic! I actually accidentally colored in an area that I was NOT supposed to color because I could barely see it. : You need more than the recommended 10 colors are stated in the introduction- you probably need 48 because some colors such as red, blue, yellow, purple, and green are associated with specific parts. Also, you are to color using light colors and some pages have letters from A to N that you have to use different colors for.My suggestion: buy the book, buy lots of colored pencils, buy NEON colored pencils and also, buy bright colored gel pens with a 0.38 point. Those will come in handy when you are coloring linings of anything. Trust me, some of these linings are SO narrow, you would be coloring out of the lines if you don't have a pen. Plus, these linings are to be colored in light of bright colors so get some neon or even pastel ones!!Good luck!Learning Hints, not previously stated by others IMPORTANT: Make sure you READ ALL the information in the section labeled "INTRODUCTION TO COLORING" BEFORE you start coloring your first page. This is located on pages "xii" and "xiii" in the front of the 4th edition. This book is very well thought out and there really is a "method to the madness" if you actually read and follow the directions.I've found it beneficial to read through all the NAMES first, checking for parts that have similar names. Second, choose SIMILAR COLORS for SIMILAR NAMES or FUNCTIONS. For example, I chose Red, Orange and Yellow for the "Levators"; 2 colors of Blue for the "Zygomaticus Major" and "Zygomaticus Minor"' and 2 shades of Brown for the "Depressors" (page 44). Then look over the basic diagram to get a feel for the order which they appear in the body. Assign the colors in order by location in the diagram. For instance, go from back to front as follows: Red (back), Orange (middle) then Yellow (front). This natural color transition helps solidify the order they appear from postier to anterior or superior to inferior (whatever the case may be) etc. NOTE: I realize this takes extra time planning your colors, but it really makes it easier to memorize when there is a consistant plan in place for what the colors visually symbolize. Finally, color in the Name First then repeat the names while coloring in that particular portion of the diagram. . I also underline the names on the left page the same as the diagram color - just makes it faster to locate if I want to look for something later...not necessary, but nice. I pre-ordered my book as I wanted the newest edition. I LOVE MY BOOK and ended up having to order a couple of extras as gifts for my "nurse" friends who wanted a fun way to refresh their memory too!

Sunstone Volume 2 (Sunstone Tp) Download

ISBN: 1632152290
Title: Sunstone Volume 2 (Sunstone Tp) Pdf
Author: Stjepan Sejic
Published Date: 2015-05-12
Page: 128
  • Two women — Ally and Lisa — find they’re the perfect domme and sub for each other. Everything seems perfect. And yet.... remember, it's all fun and games till someone falls in love!
  • The hotly-anticipated second volume of the BDSM romance graphic novel that (consensualy) took the world by storm! Originally a webcomic sensation, Sunstone is an erotic romantic comedy about fetishism, sexuality and relationships.

Going to the club. Volume 2 of Sunstone cuts back on the sex and instead focuses on the characters. A number of new people are introduced, and we also learn a good deal more about Ally.At the beginning of this volume, Lisa gets a visit from Aunt Flo, and has to cancel her planned weekend with Ally. Instead the two end up talking about how Ally and Alan first got involved. From their, the go to a BDSM club and meet some new people, all old friends of Alan. I thought the relationship in this volume was quite well written, showing how young lovers can end up overdoing something with skill.Real Characters & Real Feelings I have read both of these books and I’m drawn to talking about the second volume first. The first volume is great. It’s wonderful and I will be putting a review on the first one as well. But I really felt like typing this feeling while it was still with me. To put it in a short way: the second volume caught me off guard. The series paints an accurate portray of bdsm and how new or veteran people reflect within it. The thoughts and feelings of Alley and Lisa strike close to me and feels like I’m reading something that resembles my life. The excitement and the fear of meeting someone new and not sure if you know what you want or even if it’s real. The ending hit way too close to me and I actually teared up. I had to put the story down for a bit.Short version: This is a really highly highly highly great story series. If you’re interested in bondage or bdsm and an honest to God! love story that is grounded in reality, read this (that was a mouth full). Hell even if bdsm isn’t your thing, just read this. Sunstone is great modern love story. It has a lot truth and honesty.A respectful and real portrayal of people who like different things than you do (probably). And that's awesome. I love this series. The characters are very well developed, instantly grab your attention and hold on. The subject matter is handled in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Alternative lifestyles are presented in a clear way, and examined by several different points of view by different characters within the book. If this were my lifestyle, this is how I would hope the people in my microcosm would approach life. The relationships are portrayed in very a very real manner, with awkwardness and fights getting as much attention as sexiness and romanticism. The respect paid to people of all different walks of life is just tremendous. I know I repeated that point, but I did it on purpose: the writers and artists should be commended for this portrayal.
